MOAIs are not gods

At least that’s what science says. Researchers tend to believe that the statues represent famous chieftains or revered ancestors and acted as a link between this world and the hereafter. These findings are supported by linguistic research. In the Rapa Nui language, they are called “Moai Aringa Ora”, which means “the living face of our ancestors”.
